Children

As a specialist family law solicitor, Emma Williams has the experience to ensure children’s arrangements are handled with care and respect.

In many cases you will be able to advice on arrangements about where your children live and how often they will spend time with their other parent, however, if you are unable to reach an agreement or if it has broken down we can offer experienced, caring, child focused advice and assistance.

Child Maintenance is not linked to arrangements for your children but we can offer advice on your rights and obligations in this area.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can happen to anyone.

Nobody should have to live in fear of their partner.

Domestic abuse covers a whole range of behaviours including emotional, financial and verbal abuse as well as physical violence.

We offer sympathetic and comprehensive advice and representation to help you protect yourself and your children.

Pre Nuptial Agreements and Unmarried Couples

A prenuptial (or premarital) agreement is a written agreement made by a couple who intend to get married or enter into a civil partnership.
This agreement specifies the financial settlement which would be made in the event that they divorce or their civil partnership is dissolved.

Whilst these agreements are not enforceable by the Courts in England & Wales an increasing number of couples are choosing to enter into prenuptial agreements. These couples want to clarify what would happen if they divorce. Often they wish to agree to exclude assets which are inherited. They feel that a prenuptial agreement is likely to minimise disagreement if they separate.

We can advise you whether such an agreement is suitable for you and if so draft an agreement to ensure that it is taken into account by the courts in the event of relationship break down.

As well as advising divorcing couples we also provide advice to couples who are living together including same sex couples. It is important for such couples to obtain legal advice because the law relating to their situation is different from the law relating to married couples.

I went to see Emma today, she is a compassionate and understanding individual.
I felt she was realistic, honest, and approachable. During what can be difficult times, it is important to be able to speak to someone who is understanding, whilst at the same time being straight about the facts and likely outcomes through the divorce process.
I felt Emma had genuine care about parents, equality, and ultimately the children (when they are involved in a process).
